About Julia

Scientist | Mentor | Passionate about Scientific Communication

I’m Julia, a trained scientist, software engineer, and biomolecular modeler with over 17 years of experience in academia. I’ve published over 30 papers (including in high-impact journals) and mentored more than 30 trainees, helping them not only conduct cutting-edge research but also present and publish their work effectively. My background spans physics, chemical and physical biology, and software engineering, and I’ve worked closely with graduate students and postdocs to help them navigate their academic careers.

I started CYS Consulting because I’ve seen firsthand how one of the biggest challenges in academia isn’t just doing great science—it’s communicating it. Brilliant research can go unnoticed if it’s not shared clearly and effectively, and too often, students and postdocs aren’t given the right tools or training to bridge that gap.

That’s where CYS Consulting comes in. My goal is to give researchers the skills, strategies, and confidence to communicate their science in ways that make an impact. By helping trainees move from “knowing what to do” to “understanding how to do it,” we empower them to work more independently, boost productivity, and create high-quality scientific outputs.

Let’s make science more accessible—one well-communicated idea at a time.

Why work with me?

Proven Expertise: With a PhD in Chemical and Physical Biology, about two decades experience as a scientist and about a decade as a senior developer in one of the largest biomolecular modeling software communities, I’ve honed both the technical and mentoring skills needed to guide trainees toward success.

Track Record of Results: My teaching experience spans bootcamps and workshops (on software engineering), where I’ve learned to break down complex topics into clear, digestible concepts. In scientific writing and publishing, I’ve also worked one-on-one with students and postdocs, guiding them to develop the skills and confidence to communicate their research effectively. Through this mentorship, I’ve helped over 30 trainees not only conduct impactful research but also share their findings through presentations and publications.

Commitment to Accessibility: As a first-generation PhD, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to navigate academic systems. I’m passionate about making scientific success more accessible and helping trainees thrive, no matter their background.

How does CYS Consulting help faculty like you?

This program is designed not just to support your trainees but also to benefit you:

  • Empowering Independence: Trainees develop the skills to work more autonomously, reducing the need for hands-on guidance.

  • Saving Time: By equipping students with a clear framework for scientific writing and publishing, you spend less time editing and revising their work.

  • Boosting Productivity: Trainees complete their projects more efficiently, enhancing your lab’s overall output.

What makes CYS Consulting different?

Our programs combine foundational knowledge with advanced strategies to cater to individuals at various career stages. Whether your trainee is an early-stage researcher or more advanced, our resources provides practical, actionable tools for success.

However, success doesn’t stop with the material itself. Active participation and application of these principles by trainees are key. We provide the framework, but their engagement determines the ultimate results.
