I founded CYS Consulting (Communicate Your Science) to help you publish faster, communicate your science better, and take control of your academic success—without all the confusion and frustration.
Who am I? And why should you listen to me?
I have a PhD in Chemical and Physical Biology, a Master’s in Physics, and I've spent almost two decades as a scientist. I’ve mentored countless grad students and postdocs and helped them make writing and publishing far less painful. I’ve also spent over a decade as a software engineer in one of the largest biomolecular modeling software suites—without ever taking a single programming class.
My first paper? Took me 1.5 years and felt like a never-ending struggle. My second? Two weeks—and it won a Best Paper Award. Since then, I’ve refined the process, teaching students how to write and publish their research without spending months (or years) stuck in revision limbo.
What is Communicate Your Science?
I started CYS Consulting because I saw the same problem over and over:
Grad students struggle with writing and publishing, but no one teaches them the right way.
Academia is reactive, not proactive. You only get feedback after you’ve struggled, when it’s too late. I’m here to change that.
The skills that make you a great scientist—writing, publishing, presenting—are teachable, but academia assumes you’ll just "figure it out" along the way. That’s not how it works. I teach a structured, proactive approach to scientific communication so you can stop guessing and start succeeding.
How do I know this works?
Because I’ve tested these strategies on myself and my trainees for over a decade. I’ve worked with students from diverse backgrounds and helped scientists not only do better science but also get published faster, with less stress.
Why am I doing this?
Because no one teaches this the right way. If you’ve never been taught how to write a paper, give a talk, or design a figure—it’s not your fault. The system is broken, but you can learn.
Because grad school isn’t a level playing field. I was a first-gen PhD, meaning I had to figure things out on my own. I don’t want you to waste your time struggling like I did.
Because communication is a superpower. No matter your field, mastering scientific writing and presentation skills will open doors in academia and beyond.
