For PIs, lab heads, and research group leaders

Turn stuck lab projects into submission‑ready manuscripts this semester

A cohort‑based implementation program where your trainees make real progress on their manuscripts, and you spend less time editing and chasing them for drafts

Introducing the Zero-To-Published Manuscript Writing Sprint

A 6‑week implementation sprint with 3 months of follow‑up Q&A designed for research labs that want more manuscripts out the door, without you rewriting every draft.

Sprints run a few times per year with limited seats per cohort. Use the link to request seats for your lab or program, and we’ll confirm the best cohort and timing for your trainees.

Outcome & value (at a glance)

For your trainees:

  • One manuscript substantially drafted and moving toward submission this semester.

  • A repeatable paper‑writing workflow (figures → storyline → sections → revision plan) they can reuse on future projects.

For you:

  • More manuscripts submitted per year from projects that already have data.

  • Less time fixing structure and wording, more time giving scientific feedback.

For your lab:

  • Stronger CVs, grant applications, and promotion cases backed by actual publications.

How it works

Your trainees get a clear structure and protected time to actually write, not just learn about writing.

  • 6 live implementation workshops (90 minutes each, over 6 weeks)

    • Week 1: Figures and storyline

    • Week 2: Methods

    • Week 3: Introduction

    • Week 4: Results and Discussion

    • Week 5: Finalizing the manuscript

    • Week 6: Preparing for submission

  • 3 monthly Manuscript Q&A clinics (60 minutes each) to troubleshoot revisions, co‑author feedback, and submission planning for 3 months after the sprint

  • Access to the full Zero‑To‑Published Program with short lessons, templates, and checklists trainees can use for in-depth learning and revisit for future papers.

Sprints run a few times per year with limited seats per cohort. Use the link to request seats for your lab or program, and we’ll confirm the best cohort and timing for your trainees.

Hey, I'm Julia

Julia Koehler Leman, PhD

Scientist, software engineer

and course creator

I spent more than 17 years as a scientist, software engineer, and biomolecular modeler, where I built methods and systems — the same systems-thinking that now underpins my writing frameworks. Over that time, I published more than 30 papers (Google Scholar Profile), including several in high-impact journals and some with more than 100 co-authors, so I understand exactly what makes a manuscript high-quality and how to get it there. After mentoring more than 30 trainees, I kept seeing the same bottleneck: excellent science buried under unclear figures, tangled storylines, and drafts that take far too long to fix.

How will I know if the meeting times work for my trainee(s)?

Before the cohort begins, I’ll send everyone four possible meeting times for the weekly sprint calls. They’ll select all the options that work for them, and I’ll schedule the calls at the time that works for the majority of the group.

If your trainee can’t attend one of the calls, that’s fine—all sessions are recorded.

If none of the four time options fit their schedule, I’ll place them in the next cohort so they can participate fully without scheduling conflicts.

What if my trainee can’t attend one of the live workshops?

All calls are recorded, and trainees get action sheets so they can catch up before the next week.

What if they don’t have a project ready to write?

This program is for manuscripts based on existing data. If a trainee doesn’t have a specific project ready, they’re better suited for a future cohort once data are collected.

How do payments / purchase orders (PO) work?

Labs can pay by credit card or university PO / invoice (Net 30). Seats are confirmed once we receive an approved PO number from your institution.

Do trainees need to apply to join?

Enrollment is first‑come, first‑served. After you reserve seats, each trainee completes a short intake form so we can confirm they have a project ready to write and are matched to the right cohort start date. If someone isn’t ready yet (no data / no clear project), we’ll recommend a later cohort instead.
